Graduation Marshal

Each semester, a graduating student is selected to represent COSAM at the university Commencement ceremony. The COSAM Graduation Marshal leads the procession of graduates from the college and carries the COSAM gonfalon.

The COSAM ADAA Office solicits candidate applications, reviews qualifications, and makes a Graduation Marshal recommendation to the COSAM Dean each semester. At approximately the midpoint of the Summer and Fall semesters, the COSAM ADAA Office will email high-achieving students who are enrolled in the UNIV 4AA0 Creed to Succeed course and offer an opportunity to submit their resume or CV for consideration. During Spring semesters, students who have been nominated for COSAM Academic Awards, and are registered for UNIV 4AA0 Creed to Succeed, will automatically be considered for Graduation Marshal. Student credentials are reviewed by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, a brief meeting with the selectee is scheduled, and the Graduation Marshal recommendation is submitted to the COSAM Dean.

To be considered, a student will (by the end of the graduating semester) have completed a minimum of 60 hours at Auburn University, have an unadjusted GPA of 3.40 or higher, possess qualities of leadership, citizenship, character, and have promise of professional ability.  The Student Marshal is typically an undergraduate student, however if there is not an undergraduate student that meets these criteria, a graduate student may be selected (typically a Master’s student, 60 credit hour minimum at AU would not apply).  In the case of a student with a double major, a student should be selected as marshal only for their primary college of enrollment.

Dean’s List

  • The COSAM ADAA Office mails Dean’s List letters and certificates to qualifying students’ permanent addresses after the end of each semester. For Fall and Spring semesters, it may take a few weeks for these to arrive at your home due to the large number of students who qualify, the University’s holiday break in December/January, and other reasons.
  • Common reasons why students do not receive their Dean’s List certificate from COSAM
    • Outdated permanent address in Banner
    • Permanent address in Banner is an international address or APO/FPO
    • One or more course grades are submitted late by the professor at the end of the semester
    • Student does not qualify for Dean’s List due to the number of graded credit hours taken during that semester (see AU policy at link below)
  • Link to website for AU policy for Dean’s List https://bulletin.auburn.edu/Policies/Academic/deanslist/
  • If you have a question about the status of your Dean’s List mailing, you can email our office at: mkb0022@auburn.edu. Please do the following before initiating contact with our office:
    • Review the AU policy for Dean’s List qualifications
    • Check your unofficial transcript for Incomplete (IN) or Not Reported (NR) grades
    • Confirm your Permanent Mailing Address is correct in Banner
