Mary Neal "Mamie" Hurt Baskervill and Margret Malone Baskervill Endowed Mathematics Fellowship

This scholarship is intended to recognize superior academic performance. To be eligible for the fellowship the awardee must be enrolled as a graduate student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, must have attained the standards that the Department requires of its Graduate Teaching Assistants, and have demonstrated qualities of academic excellence.

The Graduate Studies Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will select the recipients each year.

Ralph B. Bennett Memorial Endowed Fund for Excellence in the Department of Mathematics

This scholarship is to provide funds for excellence for either undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in mathematics or statistics.

1. Each recipient must possess a minimum 3.5 GPA

Selection shall be determined by the Chair.

James Richard Calder Endowed Graduate Award

This award, established by former students of Dr. Calder, shall be given to a graduate student who shows great promise as a mathematician in the area of Analysis. Preference will be given to an incoming student.

James Richard Calder joined the Department of Mathematics at Auburn University in 1963 and remained there until his untimely death in January 1973. At Auburn, he served as advisor to many graduate students, including eight who received their PhD degrees. Dr. Calder made a profound and lasting impact on his students at Auburn.

To be eligible for consideration for this graduate award, a student must

• be admitted to the Auburn University Graduate School and be accepted to a graduate program in the College of Sciences and Mathematics pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics. Preference will be given to an incoming student. If an incoming student cannot be identified, the award may be given to a currently enrolled student. The student's reasearch must be within the area of analysis, or a related area in which analysis is a significant component.

• have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

The term of this award is for no more than five academic years.

Dr. Kevin Doheny Annual Graduate Fellowship

A $1,000 fellowship shall be awarded each year to an Auburn University graduate student or incoming graduate student who

1. is enrolled in the Auburn University Graduate School,
2. is seeking a mathematics degree in the College of Sciences and Mathematics,
3. has a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale,
4. demonstrates a financial need as verified by the Office of Financial Aid. If a student with financial need cannot be identified, the financial need criterion may be waived.

Selection of the recipient shall be made by the Chair and the Graduate Program Officer (GPO) of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Dr. Ben Fitzpatrick, Jr. Graduate Fellowship in Topology

This scholarship is intended to reward students who have demonstrated academic achievement in the field of topology.

To be eligible for consideration for this scholarship,

1. Students must be incoming or currently enrolled graduate students in the Department with an interest in topology. (Preference will be given to current Auburn students with an interest and good performance in topology.)
2. Students must have a GPA of 3.0.
3. Financial need is a secondary consideration. In cases where two students have equal or nearly equal qualifications, the one with the greatest financial need is to be the recipient of this scholarship award.

Letters of recommendation and a statement from the students may be requested.

Each scholarship is for ONE (1) year. However, prior awardees are eligible for consideration.

In cases where it is determined that the recipient is ineligible for continuation of the scholarship, a replacement may be named. The procedure for naming a replacement recipient shall be the same as for the original recipient. If no students qualify for this scholarship, neither the scholarship nor the money will be awarded.

The Graduate Studies Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in consultation with Topology faculty in the Department, will select the recipient each year.

Emily Virginia Haynsworth Memorial Endowment for Excellence in Mathematics

This scholarship is intended to reward students with outstanding research achievements. It is typically awarded to senior doctoral students.

The Graduate Studies Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will select the recipients each year.

The Don and Sandy Logan Endowment for Fellowship in Mathematics and Statistics

The fellowships are intended to acknowledge and reward academic performance for both new and continuing graduate students in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.

1. To be eligible to receive consideration for a fellowship, a student must be admitted to the Auburn University Graduate School and be accepted to a graduate program in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.
2. The amount shall be disbursed at regular intervals during the school year in accordance with normal university policies.
3. The term of this fellowship is for one or more semesters. Prior recipients will be given first consideration during subsequent semesters.
4. Where it is determined that the recipient is ineligible for continuation of the fellowship, a replacement may be named. The procedure for naming a replacement shall be the same as for the original.

The number and amount of the fellowships to be awarded shall be determined by the Chair of the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and shall be limited to the funds available in the spendable account. The selection may be made by the departmental Graduate Studies Committee in consultation with the Department Chair.

Frank Sturm Graduate Student Service Award

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics annually recognizes a graduate student who has stood out in the department for his/her contributions to service during the past year. There are many ways to stand out in this area, such as departmental clubs and organizations, programs with the COSAM Outreach Office, involvement in seminars, being a peer mentor, or even just being the "go to person" for help within the department, to name a few.

This award is peer nominated and awarded by the graduate students of the Department in honor and memory of Dr. Frank Sturm.

Daniel Zalik Fellowship

The Zalik Foundation Fund on behalf of Helen and David Zalik has established an endowment for the purpose of providing fellowships for graduate students. The fellowship will be awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence as determined by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics Graduate Studies Committee.
