Science Pub - "HEAT of the moment: Are Cities Getting Hotter?" |
Time: Oct 17, 2017 (06:30 PM) |
Location: Red Clay Brewery |
Details: The College of Sciences and Mathematics Office of Outreach will host a Science Pub at Red Clay Brewery in Opelika. Science Pub is a bi-monthly, family friendly outreach event that provides an opportunity for the community to discuss scientific topics with an Auburn University scientist. The October Science Pub will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and will feature Chandana Mitra, associate professor in the Department of Geosciences. Mitra will give a talk titled, “HEAT of the moment: Are Cities Getting Hotter?” In her talk, Mitra will discuss “urban heat islands,” and the anticipated environmental impact of large portions of the world’s population moving to urban areas. She will also provide recommendations on best-practices for mitigating negative effects on the environment, particularly in urban areas. No scientific background is required to participate in The AU Science Café, and no question is too silly to ask. All are invited, and there is no cost to attend.
