Title: Data Science Capstone Project: Building Confidence Model for the Prediction of Flight Modes

Abstract: We have been offering a Data Science Capstone project course for two years since the Master in Data Science and Engineering degree program started in 2019 in our department at Auburn University. The purpose of the Capstone Project is for the students to apply theoretical/application knowledge acquired during the Data Science and Engineering program to a project involving actual data in a realistic setting. During the project, students engage in the entire process of solving a real-world data science project. Both the problem statements for the project assignments and the datasets originate from real-world domains in industry or academic research. In this talk, I will provide information on how we run this course and, brief descriptions of the capstone projects that have been completed for two years. Finally, Mark Uzochukwu, one of the Capstone Project graduate students who worked on the capstone project provided by GE Aviation, will present his team’s collaborative work on how to build a confidence model for the prediction of flight modes and talk about his capstone experience.
