Oeding selected for the Provost’s External Residential Fellowship for Fall 2018.

Dr. Luke Oeding has been selected for the Provost’s External Residential Fellowship for Fall 2018. He has been invited to participate (as a visiting research professor) in the semester-long program on Varieties: Arithmetic and Transformations (VAT), September 1-December 1, 2018, at the Institute of Mathematics of Polish Academy of Sciences (IMPAN) in Warsaw, which is funded in part by a Simons Foundation Award. The Provost’s External Residential Fellowship provides support to cover Dr. Oeding’s teaching duties while he is away.

PhD graduate Dr. Italo Raony Costa Lima has accepted a job offer from Facebook and will start his new position as a Data Scientist on January 26, 2018. Dr. Guanqun Cao was the advisor and Dr. Nedret Billor was the co-advisor. Congratulations Italo!

Ms. Theresa Baren is selected to be the recipient of the 2017 Andrew C. Connor Memorial Award

Ms. Theresa Baren is selected to be the recipient of the 2017 Andrew C. Connor Memorial Award. She is judged to be the most creative undergraduate student enrolled in math classes. Theresa is a National Merit Presidential Scholar, majoring in Actuarial Science and has a GPA of 3.90. Though just sophomore, Theresa has already (December 2017) passed the Financial Mathematics (FM) Exam. Theresa will be recognized at the 2018 Spring Awards Banquet. Congratulations Theresa!

PhD student Mr. Rachidi Salako has accepted a three-year postdoc position in the Department of Mathematics at Ohio State University. He plans to graduate this coming Spring or Summer. Professor Wenxian Shen serves as Richidi's PhD advisor. Congratulations Rachidi!
