Slide Descriptions
Slide 1: Current Capabilities
Over the past several years, the Aerospace Engineering department has acquired several UAV / systems from DoD and other contracting vendors. We determine the current capabilities of the vehicles through testing and OEM performance specifications. We are then able to work with the end user to develop upgrades to airframe, sensors, or controls.
Slide 2: RQ-11B Ravens
Through a donation to the Aerospace Department, the RQ-11B Ravens have become part of the overall testing environment. These vehicles provide collaboration with various entities such as the Training School at Fort Benning (B Troop, 3/16 Cav.) and AMRDEC in Huntsville. These units can provide students with basic skills in UAV controls and the ability to retrofit current DoD vehicles with newer sensors and payload packages.
Slide 3: Rover Mk. I (Pakistan)
This vehicle was donated to us from an end user for the purposes of student development and training. The vehicle did not come with control units or information. This allows the students to reverse engineer the vehicle and develop user controls, software packages, and performance characteristics.
Slide 4:
As part of the AIAA Design-Build-Fly competition, students take a statement of work, develop a UAV around the requirements detailed in the statement of work, and fly at a competition in Tucson, AZ or Wichita, KS. Students can also develop UAVs for course projects, competitions, and other proposals on demand. Using wind and water tunnels, computer simulations, and other laboratory infrastructure, students can design, build, and fly any type of UAV asked for.
