Auburn University has announced the recipients of its 2026 Faculty Awards, recognizing 15 faculty members for exceptional achievement in teaching, research and creative scholarship, mentorship, outreach, and leadership.

Biologists discover ancient immune systems  

Auburn University researchers and collaborators discovered evidence that a key molecule involved in inflammation, interleukin-1, evolved much earlier than scientists previously thought. The researchers are uncovering new clues about the evolution of animal immune systems and potential connections to human health.

Gretchen Oliver, a Wayne T. Smith Distinguished Professor and Auburn Alumni Professor in the School of Kinesiology in Auburn University's College of Education, was inducted as a Fellow into the National Academy of Kinesiology at the organization's annual meeting, held Oct. 1-3 in Portland, Oregon. Being elected as a Fellow is considered one of the field's highest honors.
