Research and Teaching Interests

Our lab recognizes the remarkable resilience of the human body against the daily harmful exposures we face. However, this resilience has its limits, and some individuals may develop diseases despite this protective mechanism. While we cannot eliminate these harmful exposures, we can strive to maintain the body's ability to handle them effectively. To achieve this, our lab is dedicated to understanding how tissues maintain their function under changing conditions and why these functions are disrupted in disease. We use the liver as our primary model organ due to its remarkable regenerative capacity, which allows it to recover from repeated injury. Our goal is to create models that mimic repeated exposures to observe how tissues return to their normal state. Additionally, we are exploring innovative methods to uncover the reasons behind altered tissue function, ultimately advancing our understanding of disease mechanisms. Ultimately, we aim to identify early biomarkers of disease and engineer strategies to restore or sustain tissue homeostasis.
