CAPT John Krisciunas received his commission in 97 through NROTC at Washington State University.

After initial Surface Warfare training, he reported aboard USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) where he served as Electrical and Engineering Officer. Upon completion of his division officer tours, he proceeded to Department Head positions and served two tours aboard the Destroyer USS CARNEY (DDG-64) as Weapons officer and Combat Systems officer.

After earning his master’s degree at the Naval War College, he was assigned to the U.S. NORTHERN COMMAND as a Strategic Planner. During this assignment he was selected for Early Command and commanded USS CHIEF (MCM 14) and USS ARDENT (MCM 12), two Minesweepers forward deployed to the Persian Gulf region.

Upon completion of his early command tours, he reported to the Navy Staff (Pentagon) as a program manager for Naval Weapon Systems. In 2010 he was selected for a Congressional Fellowship and served on a congressional staff overseeing the congressman’s Armed Services Committee portfolio.

In 2012 he reported as Executive Officer in USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG-98) and subsequently assumed Command of the Destroyer in January 2014. Post-Command he was selected for a Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for 18 months followed by serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff within the Naval Operations directorate at the Pentagon.

In 2018 he reported to Destroyer Squadron 22 as Deputy Commodore and in early 2019 assumed command as Commodore of DESRON 22, an organization of over 2300 personnel.

In 2020 he reported as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Warfighting Requirements and Assessments, US Pacific Fleet and in 2022 he reported to the Pentagon as Chief of Staff for the Budgeting/Requirements directorate.

In July 2025, assumed his current position as Commanding Officer and Dept Chair within the Naval ROTC program at Auburn University.
