Welcome to this year’s symposium Graduate Student Presenter Information Hub. Please revisit this hub for graduate student presenter information and updates. University Outreach appreciates your participation as a symposium presenter this year!

We are delighted you will be presenting at the inaugural student science communication and outreach poster competition on Tuesday, September 3rd at the Auburn University Dixon Hotel and Conference Center (AUHCC) in Terrace Room. Please familiarize yourself with the following information on poster presenter expectations, timeline and judging criteria.

Poster Presenter Expectations

  • Register to attend the symposium as a Graduate Student poster presenter (at the symposium website linked above).
  • To produce a 36”x 48” effective research poster for a non-specialist audience.
  • To print out and mount your own poster during the assigned setup period, 30 min prior to your presentation session. (Equipment to attach your poster will be provided.)
  • To present a 3-minunte engaging lighting talk about your poster to 3 judges and any interested participants.
  • To remain by their poster during their assigned session judging period, 1.5hr.
  • To remove your poster during the designated time.

Presenters should consider bringing business cards or note contact information on the poster with a QR code for follow-up questions and networking. Providing 8.5 x 11 printout copies of the poster can also be used as a networking tool. Winners will be announced by 2:00PM on Tues., Sept 3rd in the Poster Session (AUHCC Terrace) Room. The 3 winners are invited to return Wed., Sept 4th to be recognized during the complimentary symposium keynote luncheon.

Timeline

Tues., September 3

  • 11:30 AM - 12 PM, Registration and 30 min set-up of poster session. Coffee break and snacks provided in area.
  • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM, Poster Session
  • 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM, Posters up for Public Review and Networking
  • 2:00 PM, 3 Overall Winners in Science Communication & Outreach Efforts announced
  • 2:30 PM, All posters to be removed from meeting space

Wed., September 4

  • 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, The 3 winners are invited to be recognized during the complimentary symposium keynote luncheon.

Judging Criteria

Judges from a variety of AU departments and potentially the community will evaluate presenters on their posters and verbal presentation’s graphics, layout attractiveness and effectiveness, verbal familiarity and engagement, importance and relevance, accuracy, and their outreach activities (or future outreach plans).

Both the poster and the oral presentation should effectively explain their research and outreach activit(ies) (i.e., engaged scholarship) in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience in 3-minutes or less.

Posters should be designed to clearly and visually represent the research stud(ies), assessments, and/or evaluations and importance to a general audience.
