Project Management

The Project Management Office has the unique opportunity to be an integral part of the efforts of every other unit in OIT as well as units across campus. They provide services for IT-specific efforts as well as campus-wide efforts that require a certain software. Additionally they strive to strengthen the IT and campus communities through supplementary projects that provide training and growth.

A gantt chart showing that the PMO worked on these projects during 2020: Salesforce, cloud migration, electronic research, identity and access management solution, cmmc counsulting, apple pay integration, Auburn Mobile App, and DNS cleanup.

The Project Management process can be a very long and complex one. Starting from the identification of a project, followed by verification of the project’s viability, vendor selection, program review, implementation, quality assurance testing, and ultimate go-live, the team is constantly working to ensure progress forward and identify ways to improve the process on future projects. Project Management requires continuous coordination across multiple OIT teams, campus IT partners, and key program users. Our Project Management Office (PMO) worked tirelessly throughout 2020 and completed 11 projects while making significant strides on another 13 major projects that will continue through 2021, and possibly beyond. Some of the completed projects are:

  • The OIT Website Redesign which resulted in a more user-friendly site for both technical and non-technical users
  • The implementation of name and pronoun preference options on several major campus systems
  • Two separate phases of bringing a new housing system online for reviewing campus housing and roommate options
  • Security upgrades to the campus Active Directory to better manage faculty, staff, and student data
  • An upgrade to the DegreeWorks system used by students for degree planning
