Positions Available at ANEL

Advanced Nanomaterials Engineering Laboratory (ANEL) is located at Materials Engineering in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Auburn University. The research of ANEL focuses on nano-biotechnology where we work at the interface of materials, engineering and biological science. As nanobiotechnology engage engineered nanoparticles (NPs) and biological systems of vastly different origin and inner workings, our goal is to weave these specialized threads together to drive advances of nanomaterials in fundamental biology, environmental science and clinical applications.

We are currently seeking innovative and self-motivitated graduate students from a wide range of backgrounds (nanomaterials, engineering, biophysics, chemistry) to work in a diverse, high energy environment. Candidates with backgrounds in nanomaterials, nanotechnology, optofluidics, biophysics and immunology are highly prefered (but not required).

Postdoctoral Positions in Optofluidic Nanoplasmonic Biosensors for Next Generation Immunoassay

Two postdoctoral research associate positions are available immediately at Advanced Nanomaterials Engineering Laboratory, Materials Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Auburn University.

The main goals of this project are to develop integrated optofluidic nanoplasmonic biosensing platforms for rapid, high throughput, sensitive and multiplex cytokine detection from whole blood to single-cell level towards next-generation point-of-care immunoassays.

This is a full-time (100% FTE) position with an anticipated service period of 24 months with an anticipated start date in September 2021. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the job performance and can be renewed up to 5 years. The postdocs for this position will be responsible for developing novel nanoplasmonic materials based biosensors for serum immunoassay, and integrated optofluidic platforms for multi-parametric cellular immunophenotyping and single-cell immune analysis.

Demonstrated expertise related to one or more of the areas involved (biosensors, nanomaterials, dark-field imaging, immunoassay) is expected. Strong candidates will demonstrate: (1) leadership skills to manage a diverse, collaborative team and mentor research assistants, (2) a history of independent writing and leading peer-reviewed publications, (3) in-depth knowledge and direct application of advanced quantitative and qualitative analyses, (4) prior experience with set-up and follow-through of experimental research and development, a critical, and careful and systematic approach to sensor methods development, ability to identify and solve problems is desired.

Interested applicants should send their cover letters and the most updated curriculum vitae to Dr. Pengyu Chen via email (pengyuc@auburn.edu).
