Operations Officer

Major Jacques M. Mayer is the Operations Officer for the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 005 at Auburn University. In this capacity, Major Mayer is responsible for instructing junior level courses on leadership, supervision, mentoring, ethics, and professionalism. Additionally, he assists in the training and mentoring of more than 200 cadets as they prepare to become United States Air Force officers. Major Mayer received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps from Auburn University in 2010, followed by undergraduate combat systems officer training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the 343d Reconnaissance Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, where he completed initial RC-135V/W RIVET JOINT navigator training. Over the next six years, he completed both instructor and evaluator upgrade trainings, as well as seven deployments in support of global reconnaissance operations across six Combatant Commands. In his tenure with the 55th Wing, Major Mayer served in various billets including squadron training officer, Chief Navigator of standardization and evaluation, squadron executive officer, and assistant director of operations.

Prior to this assignment, Major Mayer served as the Chief, Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Integration Branch, Joint Electromagnetic Warfare Center (United States Strategic Command), San Antonio, Texas where he led a 7-member team of joint military and civilian experts responsible for developing electromagnetic spectrum operations requirements and solutions across the Department of Defense, Combatant Commands, and Services. Major Mayer is a senior navigator with more than 1800 flying hours including 629 combat hours. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Aerial Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Air and Space Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster), and various unit and service awards.
