Curriculum and Course Work

 

Thesis option

M.S. degree in geography thesis option requires a minimum of 30 semester hours and the successful completion of a thesis. The 30 hours include the following:

  • 24 hours of graduate-level geography courses (including):
    • GEOG 6700 Quantitative Methods and Spatial Analysis
    • GEOL 7100 Geocommunication
  • 18 hours of graduate-level electives (12 hours must come from geography)
  • 6 hours of Research and Thesis credit

 

Non-thesis option

M.S. degree in geography non-thesis option requires a minimum of 39 semester hours and the successful completion of a comprehensive written and oral examination by an approved faculty committee. The 39 hours include the following:

  • 6 hours of required courses (including):
    • GEOG 6700 Quantitative Methods and Spatial Analysis
    • GEOL 7100 Geocommunication
  • 33 hours of graduate-level electives (18 hours must come from geography)
