Kevin Wyss, an upcoming graduate of the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), was recently honored with the Auburn University President’s Medal for Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Physical Sciences.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to receive the President's Medal,” Kevin said. “I absolutely did not expect to be selected above all of my peers in COSAM for this honor. I know many students who are just as deserving, but I am extremely excited to be selected nonetheless.”

Kevin was honored with the medal in an award ceremony held at Auburn University President Steven Leath’s home on April 9, 2019.

Kevin was recruited from New Mexico to Auburn University to join the Track & Field team and is an Honors College student. He has performed research with Chemistry and Biochemistry Associate Professor Dr. Anne E. V. Gorden for almost three years, has received an undergraduate research fellowship from Auburn University and was awarded the Dean’s Undergraduate Student Research Award.

“From taking graduate level classes, to working as a supplemental instructor, to participating in years of undergraduate research that resulted in multiple peer reviewed publications, to racing at the SEC level, I am grateful for the opportunities that COSAM, the Honors College, and the Athletic Department have presented me with,” he said.

Kevin will soon be attending Rice University to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry and has been awarded the J. Evans Attwell-Welch Graduate Fellowship.

“I believe Auburn has challenged and prepared me for success after graduation,” Kevin said. “I look forward to finishing my academic and athletic career at Auburn this spring and will always be an Auburn Tiger.”
