Message from Dean Giordano - April 24, 2020
To all faculty, staff and students in COSAM,
Thank you to everyone in COSAM for helping our students get through this last week of classes. It has been quite a challenge and quite an accomplishment to make it to the end of the semester in such good shape. I sincerely appreciate everyone's hard work and flexibility during this time of transition.
Many of you have asked how Auburn will make the transition back to normal operations. I believe we will soon get more information about the state's plan for reopening and Auburn's steps for bringing the campus back to life. I will do all that I can to keep you fully informed on how those plans with affect you.
I really am grateful for everyone sharing their comments and stories with me. Luke Oeding from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics shared with me a photo of him balancing caring for his two children while working.
Stephanie Shepherd from the Department of Geosciences shared with me a photo of her doing yoga with her four-year-old child.
Beth Smith, a freshman in Chemistry labs, is selflessly making 125 masks per week.
Tami Isaacs-Smith, a research associate in the Department of Physics, is also sewing masks. First she was sewing them for family, friends, graduate students, and co-workers. Now, she is sewing them as part of the university’s outreach program.
And, Amy Thomas shared with me a photo of her getting married at her home.
Thank you for your commitment to our students and our university’s mission. This transitional time has made us more prepared to tackle challenges in our future and find new ways to inspire others.
Please stay safe.
Nick
