Auburn astrophysicist included in Hubble’s timeline
When Interstellar comet 2I/Borisov entered our solar system, it was the first comet from another system to ever do so.
Dennis Bodewits, associate professor from the Department of Physics, used his expertise to study this comet using the Hubble Space Telescope.
"What Hubble measured in comet Borisov is not a property of most solar system comets," Bodewits said. "The composition of its ices tells us it must have come from a much colder and smaller star than our Sun."
NASA included this accomplishment dated April 20, 2020, in its interactive Hubble History Timeline.
