Ryan Mumford – 2022 Outstanding Junior (Chemistry and Biochemistry)
Ryan Mumford is a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.
He has been awarded the Spirit of Auburn Presidential Scholarship and the Dan L. and Rossanne M. Philen Endowed Scholarship. He is a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, a national Chemical and Chemical Engineering Honor Society, and the Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) honor society.
Ryan has been a part of the Dean's List since being enrolled at Auburn and received the outstanding sophomore award in 2021. He has been a learning assistant for both Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Recently, Ryan was named as a new member of COSAM Leaders and will serve as an official student representative of the college.
Ryan has had the opportunity to conduct research in Doug Goodwin's lab in developing a novel mechanism of catalase-peroxidase enzymes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Through his involvement in Goodwin's lab, Ryan has received the Marks Family Scholarship for Undergraduate Research.
During his time at Auburn, Ryan has been involved in various organizations on campus. He has been a part of and was recently elected President of the Campus Kitchen at Auburn University, a non-profit organization providing ready-to-eat meals to those who are food insecure on Auburn's campus and surrounding community.
For his freshman and sophomore years, he was a part of the Auburn University Ice Hockey Club Team and served as club secretary for both years. Since then, he transitioned to powerlifting and is an active member of the Powerlifting Club of Auburn University. Ryan is also a member of the Auburn International Buddies Program.
Ryan is pursuing his Biochemistry degree in order to attend medical school.
