Chandana Mitra elected as first AAG Fellow in the Department of Geosciences at Auburn
Chandana Mitra, an associate professor in the Department of Geosciences at Auburn University, has been elected as an American Association of Geographers (AAG) Fellow. AAG is a nonprofit scientific and educational society that advances the understanding, study and importance of geography and related fields.
“Chandana is the first AU Geosciences faculty recognized by AAG for outstanding scholar accomplishment and exceptional contribution to the geography community,” said Ming-kuo Lee, chair of the Department of Geosciences.
Mitra will be honored at the 2024 annual meeting in Hawaii.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the 2024 AAG Fellow Award. Thanks to my colleagues who thought that I am worthy,” she explained.
According to AAG, “It is a recognition and service program for geographers who have made significant contributions to advancing geography.”
"Congratulations to Dr. Mitra on this recognition of her outstanding career achievements," added Lee.
