Code of Conduct & Ethics

The Auburn University Code of Conduct & Ethics was approved by the Board of Trustees at its September 2024 meeting and applied to all four divisions on Auburn University.

What is a Code of Conduct?

A code of conduct is a set of principles and expectations that guide the behavior and actions of all members of our university community. It reflects our commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, respect, and excellence in our educational pursuits and professional interactions. A code of conduct serves as the basis for our policies and procedures that promote a safe, honest, and respectful environment for education, teaching, research, outreach, and service.

Why the Code?

The code is a declaration of our shared values. Is not a policy itself, but rather an aspirational document to strive toward daily. It is a guide for your decisions and actions as an employee, vendor, contractor, student, parent, volunteer, or community member representing the Auburn name and brand. It is the foundational document that embodies the Auburn Creed and connects generations as we carry out our strategic plan advancing Auburn’s mission while continuing tradition.

How it Works:

All of our university initiatives align with the Code. For example, the Aspire Core Values and Leadership Principles and ACE Performance Development include the core values of excellence, integrity, and respect. These values are appraised during the performance review process. Being a leader means not only demonstrating these values, but inspiring others to embrace them and live the Code daily.

All of our university policies stem from the Code. For example, we have a policy on Conflict of Interests because we value honesty, transparency, and compliance with the ethics law. We have a policy on Information Disclosure and Confidentiality because we value data privacy, security, and respect. The Code is a reminder to follow policies, each of which serves a purposes in operating within the law and making Auburn a great place to work, learn, visit and live.
