Ethical Decision-Making Process Description 1. Process Step 1: Several federal laws apply to higher education institutions. We must also comply with the state ethics law and nepotism law as public employees. Is the action legal?   If yes, proceed to process step 2  If no, Stop: This action could result in violations of law or policy, be against our Code, or cause reputational harm. 2. Process Step 2: All official University policies are located at https://aub.ie/policies. Search for relevant policies pertaining to this action. Is this consistent with University Policy?  If yes, proceed to process step 3  If no, Stop: This action could result in violations of law or policy, be against our Code, or cause reputational harm. 3. Process step 3: Act with integrity and respect, protect University data and information, avoid and disclose conflicts of interest, etc. Does it align with the values in our Code?  If yes, proceed to process step 4  If no, Stop: This action could result in violations of law or policy, be against our Code, or cause reputational harm. 4. Process step 4: Consider how the action could impact your reputation and the institution's. Would you be proud to see it on the news or social media?  If yes, Proceed or ask for clarification.  Contact Institutional Compliance or other appropriate University offical for guidance regarding this action.  If no, Stop: This action could result in violations of law or policy, be against our Code, or cause reputational harm.
