Gordon Isbell, chemistry '76, received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). The award recognizes an AGD council, committee or task force member who has exhibited outstanding leadership capabilities and whose contributions have resulted in significant and fundamental advances toward fulfilling AGD’s overall mission. Since the award’s inception in 1986, only 31 of AGD’s 39,000 members have received the honor.

After graduating from Auburn, Isbell went on to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1981. He then returned to his hometown, Gadsden, Ala., and began his practice, Isbell Dental, where he remains today.

Isbell is an active member of the Dean’s Leadership Council and has served in many roles for AGD. He is a member of numerous dental societies and committees and has received various awards including AGD’s Mastership Award, the association’s highest honor.
