Enter the Davis Arboretum’s Annual Photo Contest
If you are looking for something fun to do while practicing social distancing, then you need to grab your camera and enter the Arboretum Photo Contest.
Submit your photos of plants that are native to Alabama and the Southeastern United States in one of the following categories:
- Trees – Photos of trees (all sizes).
- Arboretum People – Photos taken in the Davis Arboretum. It could be with your friends or family. Please make sure everyone in the photo has given permission to you to use their image.
- Flora – Flowers, foliage, fruit or plants native to Alabama and the Southeastern United States.
- Wildlife – Animals native to Alabama and the Southeastern United States.
- Other – Fungi, lichens, landscapes, and those who want to create something using Photoshop.
What will you win?
Winners will be chosen by the total number of likes received on the Arboretum’s Facebook Page between July 31 and August 30, 2020.
- Bragging rights that you are an amazing photographer with links on the Davis Arboretum’s website for a winner and two honorable mentions per category.
- Possible selection for the 2021 calendar for the Davis Arboretum.
- First place winners can pick up a Davis Arboretum T-shirt or a native Azalea plant with several species to select from.
How do I submit my photo?
- Email up to three digital photos for each category as individual .jpg files to arbinfo@auburn.edu.
- Include the subject line: Photo Contest.
- The Davis Arboretum can only accept submissions at the Arboretum pavilion by appointment only.
- Each entry should be titled using the following format:
- title.photographer.jpeg, such as this file name:
Tree.Post Oak.PatrickThompson.jpeg
- title.photographer.jpeg, such as this file name:
What are the guidelines?
- Since this is a nature photography contest, please refrain from using fabricated objects such as fences, walls, or benches in photos, except for submission to the Arboretum People category.
- The photo contest is open to everyone.
- Submit photos by July 30, 2020. Judging begins on July 31, 2020, and no late submissions can be accepted.
All photos will be judged via the Arboretum’s Facebook Page with winners announced one month later. Winners will be notified via email and the Arboretum’s social media channels including Facebook and Instagram.
We regret that we cannot accept submissions that do not meet these specifications. When you submit your photo to this contest, you are giving the Donald E. Davis Arboretum the permission and rights to use your photos. The Davis Arboretum can store, display, and use the image(s) without written notification or compensation.
You could be featured in next year’s limited edition Arboretum calendar.
