intro
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is dedicated to helping you achieve your higher education goals. To make this process easier for you, please follow these simple steps when applying for financial aid. We urge you to complete the requirements early to ensure you receive the maximum aid amount you're eligible for.
FAFSA Application
Students applying for financial aid at Auburn University must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Step 1
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Applying for financial aid at Auburn begins with the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
The 2023-24 FAFSA is applicable for fall 2023, spring 2024, and summer 2024.
The 2024-25 FAFSA is applicable for fall 2024, spring 2025, and summer 2025.
-
Create an account username and password (FSA ID). This provides access to Federal Student Aid’s online systems and can serve as your legal signature. If you’re a dependent student, your parents must also create an account.
-
After your account username and password has been created and verified, visit FAFSA to begin your application.
-
Be sure to list Auburn University as a school to receive your information, our school code is 001009.
-
Dependent students must invite their parent contributor(s) to provide their information on your FAFSA.
-
Electronic signature and consent are required. Students and others providing information on your FAFSA (student’s parent(s) or spouse, if applicable) must use their account username and password (FSA ID) to provide electronic signature and consent for FAFSA to access federal tax information. If signature and consent are not provided, eligibility cannot be determined.
-
Don’t forget to reapply each year, financial aid is not renewed automatically.
If you have already submitted the FAFSA but did not list Auburn on your FAFSA, you can submit a FAFSA correction to add our school code.
Step 2
Review your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS)
Once your FAFSA has been successfully processed, you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS). You should receive your FSS within 3-5 business days.
-
The FSS indicates your Student Aid Index (SAI), which is used to determine your eligibility for financial aid.
-
The FSS also lists information you reported on your FAFSA. Review the FSS for any inaccuracies. If no corrections are needed, keep the FSS with your financial aid records.
-
If any corrections are necessary, visit FAFSA and select “Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA.” If Auburn University is not listed in the FSS’s “College Release Section,” correct your FSS to include Auburn. Our school code is 001009.
-
If your e-mail or mailing address changes, you can update using FAFSA. This will ensure that you get your FAFSA Submission Summary, renewal reminders, and other important correspondence.
Step 3
Verify Auburn has received your FAFSA
Schools will not begin to receive FAFSA information for 2024-25 until mid-March 2024. After we receive your FAFSA, the Financial Aid Requirements page of AU Access will display your required documents.

If Verification tasks are not submitted by the student within 60 days of the request, the file will be marked inactive and no federal aid offers will be made. Our office will make corrections to your FAFSA, if necessary, because of verification. You will be notified by FAFSA and/or our office either with a corrected FAFSA or a revised Financial Aid Offer. Verification may result in a 2–3-week delay.
Step 4
