Auburn is proud to award a number of scholarships to students each year. Students awarded a scholarship agree to the guidelines on scholarship payment, use, and renewal provided below.

Scholarship Payment

To receive scholarship funds, students must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours each term. Exceptions are only granted to this requirement during the semester a student is graduating and enrolled in Achieve the Creed (UNIV 4AA0). Additionally, to qualify for the exception, students must be enrolled for Auburn credit hours to receive scholarship payment and are expected to enroll at least half-time for a minimum of six credit hours.

  • Scholarships awarded to students enrolled for less than 12 hours as of the last day to add courses (the 15th class day), will be canceled for that term.
  • Scholarships that paid out because the student was at one time enrolled for 12 or more hours will be charged back for the term if the student is enrolled for less than 12 hours as of the last day to add courses (the 15th class day).
  • Students are encouraged to make all class schedule adjustments prior to the 15th class day. Scholarships will not be reinstated for students who are added to classes after the 15th class day.

Scholarship funds are applied as a credit to the student’s university billing account at the term amount indicated in the scholarship award letter. Scholarship awards are divided equally between fall and spring semester and disbursed a maximum of 10 days before the semester begins.

In the event a non-resident student’s tuition rate changes to the rate of a resident student, the non-resident scholarship awarded will be converted effective immediately to the comparable resident scholarship based on the first term of enrollment for the remaining terms of eligibility.

The total of all institutional scholarships awarded may not exceed the annual estimated cost of attendance.

The Internal Revenue Service considers scholarship support that exceeds the cost of tuition, enrollment fees required of all students and books to be taxable income. Consult your tax preparer for specific information as it relates to you.

Scholarship Renewal

First-year student scholarships are available for a maximum of eight semesters and are renewed each year provided students meet minimum academic requirements and expectations outlined in Auburn University’s Code of Conduct. Students have the fall and spring semesters of each academic year to achieve a 3.0 cumulative, unadjusted Auburn GPA and earn a minimum of 24 credit hours at Auburn from fall to spring semester. Scholarships will not be renewed for the following academic year if these requirements are not met.

  • GPAs of 2.95 to 2.99 are not rounded to 3.0. Scholarship reinstatement is not available, even if the student achieves a 3.0 cumulative, unadjusted Auburn GPA in a later term.
  • Students who are unable to enroll at Auburn for an expected term for any reason should contact the Office of University Scholarships. Exceptions are granted for students who obtain a medical resignation or military withdrawal or participate in the Cooperative Education Program.
  • Students who obtain a medical resignation or military withdrawal or participate in the Cooperative Education program during the fall or spring semester of an academic year may be granted through the summer term to achieve the minimum 3.0 cumulative, unadjusted Auburn GPA and earn the minimum 24 Auburn credit hours required for renewal.
  • Students will be evaluated after spring semester for scholarship renewal or a possible probation semester during the upcoming fall term. Typically, students who have earned 23 Auburn hours and maintained a 3.0 cumulative, unadjusted Auburn GPA or who have earned 24 Auburn hours and achieved a minimum 2.8 cumulative, unadjusted Auburn GPA may be more likely to receive a fall  probation semester.

Auburn University is committed to providing a nurturing and vibrant community founded upon the fundamental dignity and worth of its members in an environment that promotes integrity, responsibility, and mutual respect. The Auburn Creed is the foundation upon which these values are established. Standards of acceptable behavior for students and student organizations are reflected in the Code of Student Conduct and other university policies. Suspension from the university for academic or non-academic conduct violations may result in scholarship termination.

Scholarship Use

Students who plan to enroll summer term and wish for their scholarship to be applied during that term should email the Office of University Scholarships.
  • Scholarship funds requested for summer term will contribute to the maximum eight semester total.
  • Students eligible for scholarship funds in the summer must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours through a combination of the full term and all mini-terms.
  • Students must be eligible for scholarship renewal at the end of spring semester to request payment for summer semester.

Students may apply a semester of their scholarship for Auburn faculty-led study abroad programs and exchange programs, provided they are registered for 12 or more Auburn credit hours during that term.
  • Students should use resources provided by the Auburn Abroad office to identify eligible programs.
  • Students must fill out a course approval form with Auburn Abroad indicating the courses in which they will be enrolled abroad and the number of Auburn credit hours they anticipate earning during that term.
  • Students may not apply their scholarship toward third-party study abroad affiliate programs.

Scholarship funds may only be applied toward the completion of a first undergraduate degree.

  • Students who graduate early are ineligible to receive the balance of unused funds in their final semester and may not apply unused funds to graduate study or a second undergraduate degree. Exceptions are granted for students who are participating in the accelerated bachelor’s/master’s degree program.
  • Students may use scholarship funds for professional study (i.e. pharmacy or veterinary medicine) or an Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s (ABM) Program, provided they have not already completed a first undergraduate degree, have semesters of eligibility remaining and are eligible for renewal.
  • Students are not permitted to attend another institution during an academic term for which they receive scholarship funds without advanced written consent from the Office of University Scholarships. Failure to obtain consent may result in the loss of scholarship funds.

Students who elect to enroll in an online degree program are not eligible for scholarship payment.
