Director

Drew Clark joined the faculty of Auburn University in 1982 and holds the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of English, where he taught courses on English Renaissance literature and on the Bible. He has served as Director of the Office of Institutional Research since 2004. He is responsible for promoting and supporting research-based planning, evaluation, and improvement processes throughout the University. On behalf of the Provost, he coordinates the ongoing academic program review process for departments and schools that do not have external accrediting bodies. And he serves as Auburn University’s accreditation liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. He holds the Ph.D. in English from Yale University. Iryna Johnson

Iryna Johnson

Associate Director for Analytics

Iryna Johnson joined Auburn University in 2008. Her primary responsibility is to support planning and evaluation through rigorous and appropriate data analysis, survey administration, and research studies. Her training and experience are in the areas of quantitative and qualitative research methodology, institutional research, and assessment. Her scholarly publications emphasize the selection and use of appropriate statistical methods in institutional research. Recent publications have analyzed the phenomenon of student swirl and the impact of class size and non-tenure-track instructors on student grades and retention. She holds the Candidate of Sciences degree in Sociology (equivalent to the PhD) from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Matthew Campbell

Matthew Campbell

Senior Institutional Research Analyst

Matthew Campbell started in Auburn’s institutional research office in 1997 as a Graduate Research Assistant. After serving the IR office at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, he returned to Auburn in 2005 as an Institutional Research Analyst. Matthew provides leadership and information support in the areas of enrollment management, student and academic affairs, and physical space management. He earned a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Auburn University in 2002, conducting research on the academic performance of junior college transfers. Karen Battye

Karen Battye

Senior Institutional Research Analyst

Karen Battye joined the institutional research office in 2010. She provides leadership and support for curricular and other processes that affect the University’s student information system and is the office’s principal point of contact with the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. She also coordinates data submission and user support for annual benchmarking of faculty scholarly productivity against disciplinary norms. She holds the Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Auburn University and has over fifteen years of experience in the areas of manufacturing, product design, and healthcare. Institutional Research Analyst

Angie Lane joined Auburn University’s institutional research office in 2016, having previous served in a similar role in the Office of Enrollment Services. Angie brings with her over thirteen years of both Auburn and Admissions related experience. She maintains accurate information about Auburn University for the office’s on-line factbook and Common Data Set and responds to requests for information about Auburn University from college guidebooks, surveys, accrediting agencies, and other external organizations. She holds the Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from Auburn University and recently earned the Master of Education from Ashford University. Julia Thompson joined the office in 2018 after several years with the Graduate School and Office of Undergraduate Studies. She maintains the website with accurate information about Auburn University and develops interactive data visualizations for self-service reporting and analysis. She also provides support by assisting with data extracts and preparation, information requests, and other departmental projects. She holds the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering, and is pursuing the Master of Technical and Professional Communication, all from Auburn University. Administrative Support Associate I

Amanda Decker joined the office in 2012 as Administrative Support Associate. Acting as the first point of contact for the Office of Institutional Research, she handles incoming request for data and supplies basic information about office operations. She is responsible for day-to-day administrative duties and lends a hand to the staff as needed throughout the year. She holds the Bachelor of Arts in English and the Master of Education in Administration of Higher Education from Auburn University.
