Multimedia Accessibility Guidelines

Video and audio files are a great way to engage your online students, website visitors, and social media followers.  Accessible videos and audio files accommodate visually and hearing impaired users as well as individuals that may have physical or mental limitations by adhering to the following guidelines:

• Use captions in videos
• Provide transcripts for audio files and podcasts
• Provide an extra file containing audio descriptions of visual information not included in the captions (examples include images, charts, physical demonstrations, etc.)
• Provide alt description and title for embedded media file for screen readers
• Use media that has good picture and/or sound quality
• Avoid flashing images and light that may cause seizures, headaches, or other discomfort
• Allow the user to stop and start the media at anytime
