Create an Audio Description

Audio descriptions describe visual information conveyed in videos where audio doesn't describe graphs, charts, tables, on-screen text, demonstrations, or other visual info. The audio description example embedded on this page is a great example of an audio description of the opening credits of a Universal Studios movie.

It is easy to build audio desriptions into your video script if you are creating the video yourself. An example of this would be if you were presenting a chart in a video, you would say, "As you can see in this pie chart, there are six groups represented. Group 1, denoted in blue, holds 50% of the assets, while the other 5 groups each own 10% of the assets."

Creating an audio description is not for everyone. However, if you want to give it a try, you may choose to record audio descriptions on your computer or smartphone. You may also find podcasting services useful for creating audio descriptions. There are three example services listed below, but feel free to search online for the service that works best for you.

No matter what method or service you decide to use, it is important that the audio quality is good and the descriptions convey the visual scene accurately. Please contact the Office of Accessibility for help with creating audio descriptions at anytime.

Please note these podcast services are not Auburn University affiliated, and the university is not responsible for any content posted on these sites.
