미국 동남부 지역에서 한국인과 타민족 간의 소통을 증진하는 민간 외교 단체로서 사명을 담당합니다. 또한 한인 지역 사회의 건강한 발전을 위한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 제공합니다.

We serve the mission of enhancing communication between Koreans and individuals of different ethnic backgrounds in the southeastern United States. Moreover, we offer diverse educational programs to contribute to the thriving development of the Korean community.

설립 | ESTABLISHMENT

코리아코너는 아틀란타 총영사관과 어번대학교 아웃리치의 지원으로 2017년 3월 28일 어번대학교에 설립되었습니다. 코리아코너는 헤일리센터에 자리잡고 있으며, 어번대학교 평생교육원에서 행정적인 지원을 해 주고 있습니다.

The Korea Corner, a center for Korean community relations was founded on March 28, 2017, at Auburn University with the support of Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Atlanta and Auburn University Outreach. The Korea Corner is located on the 2nd floor of the Haley Center and operates within the Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE) at Auburn University

The Korea Corner is currently operated by two administrative staff members and two student ambassadors who assist the operation. In addition, many volunteers are also actively involved.

초·중·고교 한국어·문화 방과 후 프로그램 및 한국어 정규수업 운영
Korean Language and Culture Regular and Afterschool Programs

한국어 및 문화교육은 2023년 현재 어번시와 오펠라이카시에 있는 5개 학교에서 실시되고 있습니다. 어번시에서는 방과 후 또는 특별활동 시간을 이용해 한국어 수업을 제공하고 있으며, 오펠라이카 하이스쿨에 서는 제 2 외국어 정규과목으로 한국어 수업이 개설되어 있습니다. 이 프로그램은 아틀란타 한국교육원의 지원으로 2018년 가을학기부터 시작되었습니다. 현재 총 100여명의 학생들과 3명의 교사들이 한국어 수업에 참여하고 있습니다. 이 프로그램을 실시하고 있는 학교는 다음과 같습니다.

As of 2023, Korean language and cultural education are being conducted in five schools in Auburn and Opelika. In Auburn, Korean language classes are offered during after-school or special activity hours, while Opelika High School provides Korean classes as a regular second language course. This program, supported by the Atlanta Korean Education Center, began in the fall semester of 2018. Currently, over 100 students and three teachers are participating in Korean language classes. The schools implementing this program are as follows:

어번대학교 학생 대상 ‘한국어 일대일 튜터링 서비스’ 제공 | Korean Language Tutoring Program for Auburn University Students

코리아코너에서는 한국어 기초과정을 수강하는 어번대학교 학생들 에게 무료 튜터링 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다. 튜터링은 주 1회, 한 시간 동안 제공되며, 개별 또는 소그룹, 그리고 대면 또는 온라인 으로 진행됩니다. 이 시간을 통해 학생들은 한국어 회화를 연습하고 숙제나 시험 준비에 도움을 받을 수 있으며, 문화 체험을 할 수 있는 기회도 갖게 됩니다. 튜터링은 자원봉사자들의 지원으로 제공되며 18세 이상 성인은 누구나 봉사를 지원할 수 있습니다.

At Korea Corner, free tutoring services are provided to Auburn University students taking basic Korean language courses. Tutoring is offered once a week for one hour, conducted either individually or in small groups, and can be in-person or online. During this time, students have the opportunity to practice Korean conversation, receive assistance with homework or exam preparation, and engage in cultural experiences. Tutoring is made possible through the support of volunteers, and anyone aged 18 or older can apply to volunteer.

미주 한인 풀뿌리 컨퍼런스 | Global Korean American Grassroots Conference

한인들의 시민참여의식을 고취시키기 위해 매년 미주 한인 풀뿌리 컨 퍼런스를 제공합니다. 이 컨퍼런스를 통해 한인들의 지역사회 봉사 활 동을 장려하고, 나아가 유권자로서 정치 참여의 중요성을 강조합니다. 특별히 차세대의 정치권 참여 필요성이 강조됩니다. 한국홍보관에서는 워싱톤에 본부를 둔 미주 한인 유권자 연대 (Korea American Grassroots Conference)와 협력하여 2019년 4월 처음으로 이 컨퍼런스를 개최했습니다. 이 컨퍼런스에는 주 정부 인사, 상하원 의원, 시장 등 정치권 인사들이 참여해 한인들과 교류하며 한인들의 시민 참여의 중요성과 그 구체적 방법들을 공유합니다. 지난 3년간은 어번시에서 개최되었으며 2023년 헌츠빌을 시작으로 타 도시 한인회가 행사를 주관하게 되었습니다. 이 컨퍼런스는 다음 기관들의 지원으로 개최됩니다. Korea American Grassroots Conference, Overseas Koreans Agency, Alabama Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs.

To promote civic awareness among Koreans, an annual North American Korean Grassroots Conference is provided. Through this conference, encouragement is given for Korean community volunteer activities and, furthermore, the importance of political participation as voters is emphasized. The necessity of the next generation's political involvement is particularly underscored. In collaboration with the Korea American Grassroots Conference, headquartered in Washington at the Korea Promotion Center, the first conference was held in April 2019. The conference, attended by government officials, senators, congressmen, mayors, and other political figures, allows for exchanges with Koreans, sharing the importance of Korean civic participation and specific methods. Over the past three years, it has been hosted in Auburn, and starting in 2023 in Huntsville, other city Korean associations will take turns organizing the event. This conference is made possible with the support of the following institutions: Korea American Grassroots Conference, Overseas Koreans Agency, Alabama Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs.

한인 청소년 리더십 프로그램 | Korean American Youth Leadership Program

미주 한인 청소년 리더십 프로그램은 재외동포재단(현 동포청)의 지원으로 2020년에 시작되어 2023년 현재 4회를 맞고 있습니다. 이 프로그램은 미주 한인 청소년들이 한인 후손으로서 정체성을 확립하고, 리더십 자질을 키우기 위해 설계된 일년 과정 프로그램으로 9학년부터 12학년을 대상으로 실시됩니다. 이 프로그램을 통해 참가학생들은 미 전역에서 활동하고 있는 한인 전문직 리더들은 만나며, 도전을 받고 미래의 꿈을 키워갈 수 있습니다. 또한 독서를 통해 세상을 보는 다양한 안목을 키워갑니다. 지역사회 봉사기회는 리더가 지녀야 할 사회적 책임과 나눔에서 오는 기쁨을 경험하는 의미있는 시간이 됩니다.

The Korean American Youth Leadership Program in the Americas, supported by the Overseas Koreans Foundation (currently Overseas Korean Administration), began in 2020 and is now in its fourth iteration as of 2023. This program is designed to help Korean American youth in Alabama establish their identity as descendants of Koreans and enhance their leadership qualities. Conducted over a one-year period, the program is targeted at students from 9th to 12th grade. Through this program, participating students have the opportunity to meet Korean professional leaders active across the United States, face challenges, and cultivate aspirations for the future. Additionally, engaging in reading helps broaden their perspectives on the world. Local community service opportunities provide a meaningful time for participants to experience the social responsibility that leaders should possess and the joy that comes from sharing.

Korea Corner facilitates understanding among students and the general public across various fields in Korean society, including politics, economics, society, culture, and religion, through various special lectures, seminars, and symposiums. These educational sessions involve inviting experts in each field for in-depth discussions.

어번시 및 인근 지역 초, 중등 학교 교사 한국 연수 | Global Education Program for K-12 Educators

This program started in 2011 to assist elementary and middle school teachers in understanding the educational needs of Korean students and parents and providing educational opportunities in response to those needs. Through this program, approximately 10 American teachers visited Korea every June, gaining insights into Korean education, society, and culture. The program concluded in 2023.

Korea Corner provides various educational opportunities necessary for the Korean community, which has been newly formed and developing since 2003, to grow steadily. In other words, we provide educational opportunities for healthy resolution of domestic, educational, and interpersonal problems that can be encountered while adapting to, and settling in, the southern United States.

감성교육 지도자 자격증 과정 | Emotional Education Instructor Certificate Program

감성교육 지도자 자격증 과정은 감정 놀이 교육 전문가 양성을 목적으 로 합니다. 감정놀이교육은 “아동의 행복은 솔직한 감정표현에서 시작 한다”는 믿음에 바탕을 두고 있습니다. 아동이 즐거운 놀이 활동에 참 여하는 과정에서 자연스럽게 자신의 감정을 인식하고 표현하며, 더 나 아가 다른 사람의 감정 표현에 경청하는 법을 배우도록 합니다. 성인 학습자를 대상으로 개발된 본 프로그램은 총 8주, 24시간 과정으 로, 아동 감성교육 이론 강의와 감정놀이 교구를 활용한 아동 대상 교육 실습으로 구성되어 있습니다.

The Emotional Education Instructor Certificate Program aims to foster emotional play education experts. Emotional play education is based on the belief that “Children's happiness begins with honest expression of emotions.” In the course of children's participation in fun play activities, they naturally recognize and express their feelings, and further learn to listen to others' feelings. The program, developed for adult learners, is a 8-week, 32-hour course, which consists of lectures on children's emotional development and practice sessions with children using emotion play teaching tools.
