Our Mission
The Biggio Center brings together the people, ideas, resources, and services that help Auburn’s teaching community prepare graduates to become creative problem solvers in a global economy.
Our teams (Auburn Online, Biggio Teaching, Biggio Instructional Technology, EASL Classrooms, and Biggio Testing Services) support faculty, instructional staff, graduate teaching assistants, students, and academic partners through programs and services that strengthen teaching and learning across Auburn.
In alignment with Auburn University’s mission and strategic plan, we support colleagues in traditional, online, hybrid, and emerging learning environments by:
-
Guiding faculty in the thoughtful use of existing and emerging instructional technologies that support engaged, active student learning.
-
Providing professional development resources and support throughout the academic career.
-
Encouraging collaboration across Auburn’s academic community through digital media, interdisciplinary partnerships, workshops, consultations, and learning communities.
-
Delivering high-quality testing services in a safe, secure, accessible, and professional testing environment.
-
Advancing the value of innovative teaching at Auburn and beyond through support for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, evidence-informed practice, and academic innovation.
Founded in 2003 through funding from the estate of Alvin A. and Mila Biggio, the Biggio Center was created to engage, support, and empower Auburn’s academic community in every phase of the learning process. The center’s founding director was Dr. James Groccia. Auburn Foundation records note that Alvin Biggio was one of the Foundation’s first board members and that the Biggios’ estate gift helped establish the center to support Auburn’s work in teaching, learning, and student preparation.
As the Biggio Center approaches its 25th anniversary in 2028, we continue to honor Al and Mila Biggio’s legacy by helping Auburn faculty and students meet the future with creativity, confidence, and a commitment to excellent teaching.
