Academic Reach

Auburn Online partners with faculty to create high-quality instructional content grounded in learning science and design best practices. A multidisciplinary team—including instructional designers, media producers, graphic artists, 3D modelers, and mixed-reality developers—collaborates with subject-matter experts to enhance learning outcomes. The initiative spans diverse fields such as geosciences, art, hospitality, biological sciences, business analytics, chemistry, political science, and community planning, demonstrating the broad applicability of immersive technologies across disciplines.

Program History and Growth

Launched in 2021, the AUX Immersive Learning Experiences program began as a joint initiative between the Office of Information Technology and the Biggio Center to support faculty-led projects integrating AR and VR into teaching. Since its inception, AUX has funded immersive projects across academic fields, including web-based and headset-enabled virtual reality and augmented reality experiences. Auburn Online’s leadership in this initiative reflects its commitment to educational innovation and its ongoing efforts to enrich online learning through emerging technologies.
