Request a Teaching Feedback Service or Consultation
Fill out the request form and a Biggio Center representative will reach out to you. Faculty are limited to one teaching feedback service request per semester. Reach out to us with any questions.
Request a Teaching Feedback Service or Course ConsultationWe provide a letter or documentation for your Tenure and/or Promotion file once your service has been completed. The letter documents the date and class you had observed and celebrates your commitment to improving your teaching, but will never contain specific information about your teaching or your students’ feedback. As with all of our consultations and feedback services, Biggio services are protected by our confidentiality policy. Our goal is to provide you with formative feedback that can help you improve your course.
Teaching Feedback Services
Teaching Feedback Services provide Auburn instructors with confidential, formative feedback focused on growth. These services are not evaluative. They are designed to help instructors better understand what is happening in their courses, identify opportunities for improvement, and make evidence-informed decisions about teaching.
Course Observation
We will do a pre- and post- consultation to ensure our observation is aligned with your needs. We perform observations anytime during the semester. Can be done face to face or via Teams/Zoom.
*For Undergraduate Large Lecture STEM Courses we use the Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS)
Small Group Instructional Feedback
SGIFs are student focus groups facilitated by a Biggio Center representative. We conduct these during the middle three weeks of the semester. Feedback is intended to help faculty improve a course they are currently teaching so we do not conduct them later than mid-semester. Can be done face to face or via Teams/Zoom.
- Fall SGIF Season: Late September - Mid October
- Spring SGIF Season: Mid February - Mid March
Online Student Survey
This option is recommended for large enrollment courses (>100 students) or when the instructor cannot use class time for feedback services.
Course Consultations
In addition to Teaching feedback, we also provide consultations to support faculty improvement in designing course materials in both written and digital formats. These consultations focus on asynchronous aspects of the course—such as a Canvas course, syllabus, recorded lectures, assignments, etc.—and are designed to strengthen a faculty’s ability to engage and support students. These sessions are limited to one hour. Faculty may request one consultation per semester.
Course Material Consultation
We review single document (syllabus, course assignment) or single digital file (recorded lecture >15 minutes, Canvas page, Teams/Zoom recording) and provide feedback and suggestions based on your needs and goals.
Online Course Review (OCR)
We review course design and materials with you to help you assess and improve your online courses.
Student Evaluations of Teaching Consultations
We review your SETs and summarize the feedback with an eye towards improvement. This service is intended to make SETs (which research conducted by the Auburn Faculty Senate’s Teaching Effectiveness Committee shows are biased and unreliable sources of data) a source of information about what students are experiencing in your class. Our summary is intended to sift through comments and feedback to make sure that feedback related to the class is communicated, but comments that are harmful, irrelevant, biased, or discriminating against an individual faculty member’s identity (or any other individual involved in the class) are redacted.
Coaching Consultation (CC)
A one-on-one conversation to support your teaching goals, troubleshoot challenges, or discuss strategies. This option does not involve student feedback or class observation. Best for reflective dialogue and planning.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Consultations
Whether you're exploring an idea or refining a finished manuscript, we offer guidance on the systematic inquiry of student learning in your courses. We’ll partner with you to design, analyze, and write SoTL projects that lead to insightful publications and presentations. We'll also strategize with you to communicate the value of SoTL projects for your department, college, and beyond.
Teaching and AI Consultations
These consultations offer one-to-one, 30-minute sessions to help faculty explore practical ways to use AI in their teaching and professional work. Whether you want to adapt an assignment, rethink a syllabus, or streamline everyday tasks, these sessions provide individualized guidance as you begin experimenting with AI. To get the most out of your session, bring a course syllabus, assignment draft, or other materials you’d like to rework, or simply come with questions. Faculty from all disciplines and levels of AI familiarity are welcome.
