Definitions

Tuition and Fees

The average cost of tuition and fees based on enrollment for 12 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students and nine credit hours per semester for graduate students (fall, spring, or summer). Actual costs may vary depending on the student’s degree program.

The amount that students pay in tuition and required fees represents a sizeable and important investment in their future. However, student payments alone do not cover the full cost of providing any of Auburn’s educational programs. Even after state appropriations are included, some programs require supplemental tuition or student fees in order to provide the high-quality learning environment that students expect. Like the basic tuition and fees, these additional amounts help to cover not only the direct costs of providing instruction and advising in these programs but also indirect costs associated with Auburn’s role as a comprehensive center of higher education for the state.

Housing and Food

The average cost per semester to live in Auburn while attending the university. Actual costs will vary. The on- and off-campus estimated costs assume a roommate. On-campus housing rates are available from University Housing and Residence Life, and costs for required and optional dining plans are available from Tiger Dining.

Miscellaneous Expenses

Books, Course Materials, Supplies and Equipment

The average cost of books, course materials, supplies, and equipment. Actual costs may vary by enrollment and depending on the student’s degree.

Transportation

The allowance provided each semester for students who require transportation between campus and their permanent residence, not to maintain a vehicle. Actual costs will vary.

  • Parking Services provides information about parking permits for students who plan to park a vehicle on campus.
  • Tiger Transit provides a shuttle service included in the student services fee to transport students around campus and to and from a number of areas in the Auburn-Opelika area.
  • Lee-Russell Public Transit (LRPT) is the public transportation system for the Lee County area. Private shuttle services are available to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
  • Additional transportation options are also available.

Personal Expenses

The miscellaneous allowance for personal expenses such as clothing each semester. Actual costs will vary.
