The Syllabus Template has been designed to help faculty ensure that their syllabus includes all course policies and information stipulated by the Auburn Faculty Handbook. You can use this template as a starting place or as a checklist. It also includes a template of the most important components of any syllabus:
- Instructor and Course Information (including contact info and office hours)
- Course Overview
- Learning Outcomes
- Overview of the Grading Structure and Major Assignments.
Like a well designed course, your syllabus should include all the necessary information for a student to succeed, but the best syllabi also use this document to introduce students to the learning environment of the course. Two effective strategies for engaging students with your syllabus is to communicate your high expectations for their learning and explicitly state your belief that they can succeed.
If you would like to meet with a teaching and learning expert to get specific feedback on your syllabus or other course materials, request a Teaching Feedback Consultation.
