Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be familiar with:

  • How to find appropriate funding
  • Basic steps in submitting a proposal
  • Basic administrative needs of a projects

  1. How to identify a need for funding
    1. Create a clear and complete funding statement
    2. Aligning this funding statement to a general monetary amount
  2. How to find appropriate funding
    1. Federal/state agencies
    2. Foundation and other non-profits
    3. Aligning your funding need to a sponsor’s mission statement & funding goals
  3. Basic steps in submitting a proposal
    1. How to review Program Announcements and Solicitations
      1. Eligibility
      2. Sponsor’s mission
      3. Following guidelines
      4. Review criteria
    2. Submission process
  4. Basic administrative needs of a project
    1. Award acceptance process
    2. Award reporting during and at close out
    3. Compliance needs

Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be familiar with:

  • Basic sections of a grant proposal and approach on writing these sections
  • Develop an appropriate budget and budget justification
  • Additional financial aspects

Outline:

  1. Basic sections of a grant proposal and approach on writing these sections
    1. Review each section’s purpose and what they should include
    2. The Does and Don’ts in writing a strong persuasive proposal
  2. Develop an appropriate budget and budget justification
    1. Know what can and cannot be included in your budget
    2. Ensure what you are requesting in funds covers what you need to accomplish
  3. Additional financial aspects
    1. Fringe
    2. Facilities and Administrative Costs
    3. Cost Share

Susie Elkins

Susan Elkins currently serves as an Administrator for Proposal Services in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Auburn University. She is a graduate of Cottey College in Missouri and holds a Bachelor's of Engineering from Auburn University. Elkins will bring aspects of proposal development to the workshop as she speaks about the grant process and grantsmanship.
