Onboarding Center continues to improve processes for new employees

The Onboarding Center continues to improve onboarding processes for new employees and units.

Last fall, the center began servicing all employees (full-time, part-time, student, and temporary). To ensure that the onboarding process remains a positive experience for new employees, the Onboarding Center partnered with Employment to streamline services.

  • All onboarding tasks now occur at one location -- the Onboarding Center. (Previously, TES hires were onboarded in a separate location.)

  • Onboarding tasks are now consistent among all employee types and are assigned in two phases:

    • Phase 1: Form I-9, tax forms, personal data forms, etc.

    • Phase 2: Direct deposit instructions, email, parking pass, AU Access, etc.

The Onboarding Center also introduced new ways to enhance services.

  • Employees can now learn more about onboarding processes by enrolling in the ElevatED course "Onboarding: Making Connections and Bridging the Gaps” (HR104C). The course launched in April 2023.

  • The Onboarding Center created a new hire listserv to better communicate with new employees. An onboarding newsletter along with details for monthly coffee and conversations sessions are shared with new employees.

  • The Onboarding Center also hosted its inaugural drive-thru onboarding event in August. Nearly 300 I-9s were processed over the two-day event, and over 1,000 I-9s were processed during the month of August.

Triple Focus

Onsite Services

Onboarding specialists conducted several onsite events last year. By doing this, numerous employees performed their onboarding tasks at the respective work locations rather than having to go to the Onboarding Center. This service was provided to campus partners with large volumes of hiring such as Campus Recreation, Housing, and First Year Experience.

NEO Survey

Planned Improvements

  • Developing an onboarding toolkit for campus partners

  • Improving work authorization reverification processes
