Distributed IT

CrashPlan with ACES & AG

In 2018, the College of Agriculture and the Alabama County Extension Services (ACES) lead a campus-wide effort to bring CrashPlan to campus. This program is especially useful for the employees out in the extension offices and throughout the state who may not always have the best internet connectivity. CrashPlan provides automatic, continuous backups to multiple locations. It allows you to manage your data and easily recover any data that might have gotten lost. It also boasts military-grade security and data encryption, so we know that the work happening with ACES can continue with confidence.

Virtualization with COSAM

In early 2018, the IT Providers from the College of Science and Mathematics (COSAM) started working with OIT to merge the COSAM digital workspaces in with the main OIT systems using VMware. This requires specific configurations and software changes, but it will ultimately provide the COSAM students, faculty, and staff with a more robust digital workspace environment and free up their IT providers to assist them in other ways. This project will continue through the first half of 2019 with the hope of being able to retire the COSAM virtual desktops in May.
