The Big Event

Web Application Development and Open Source Code

In 2018, the Campus Web Solutions, a team of six co-op students working for Application Development in OIT, were tasked with creating an application for an annual service day called The Big Event. Hundreds of organizations across the country host similar Big Events and there are tens of thousands of participants every year. When tasked with creating this application by Student Involvement, one requirement is that the code be customizable and made available to any of those other organizations.

These students spent hundreds of hours working on the web application that you can view here. This website integrates the volunteer sign up, team assignment, jobsite request, tool management, and so much more. Work that was previously done by spreading sheets of paper all across an office can now be done through this application. Not only does this help the coordinators and volunteers on campus, but it allows more people in the community to be served as well as people across the country. With color customizations, donor badges, and a countdown clock, this tool will be a great asset to The Big Event!
