Student Safety Walk

Testing Emergency Phones Across Campus

Each semester, the Student Government Association (SGA) hosts a safety walk which involves dividing up into separate groups who walk 8-10 routes across campus looking for unsafe conditions such as poor lighting, uneven walkways, overgrown vegetation, or malfunctioning emergency phones.

In partnership with Campus Safety and Security, as well as the SGA, OIT operates and maintains 156 emergency blue light phones across the entire campus. During the Campus Safety Walk, every blue light is tested to ensure that it's functioning properly. OIT Leadership and Telecommunications teams strongly support, and participate in, each safety walk.
